    An affidavit filed Wednesday morning by Flathead County Attorney Ed Corrigan alleges that Barkus had two Scotches and some wine the night of the Aug. 27 accident, and the boat was likely traveling at between 40 and 45 miles per hour when it ran onto the rocks at Wayfarers State Park near Bigfork, badly injuring all aboard. "I think I'm turned around," Barkus allegedly said shortly before the crash, and then turned the boat toward the right, the affidavit says. (Montana Standard, MT)

    Taking a look at teams from the region that have won a state championship (Flathead, Ronan, Polson, Seeley-Swan, Whitefish, Bigfork and Flathead County in 1907) there have been 24 boys' titles and 32 girls titles. Considering the girls' state meet has only been running 41 years and the boys' has been going since 1904 (except 1917 for World War I and 1943-1945 for World War II), that's pretty impressive for the girls in the Flathead region.     BIGFORK If no one else will tax them, why then the businesses of Bigfork will tax themselves. Alex Strickland of the Bigfork Eagle reports that a recent meeting of Bigfork business owners revealed nearly unanimous support for a voluntary 1 percent tax, with revenue going to enhancing the unincorporated village ... They're calling it a contribution, and it would be used to promote Bigfork and make downtown improvements. (Missoulian, MT)
