    In 2007 when Sparks was in seventh grade, Cumberland lost in the Class 3A quarterfinals and Gabel s eighth grade team finished third, going 23-1 and losing to the eventual state champion, Carlinville, a team that is in the Class 2A high school state tournament semifinals.
