In the Sierra foothills, new evacuations were ordered Sunday after the Yuba Fire, located south of the town of Dobbins (Yuba County), jumped the Yuba River and headed southeast toward the French Corral area of Nevada County. The blaze in Yuba County spread rapidly Saturday from less than 2 square miles to nearly six as the flames jumped the north Yuba River and began burning in Nevada County, according to CalFire spokeswoman Joann Cartoscelli. She said the number of firefighters was more than doubled to 1,300 from around the state to battle the blaze, which was initially touched off by burning feathers from a red tailed hawk that flew into a power line.
